The chaggim are behind us, and as the weather starts to cool, many of us are already dreaming about our next getaway. Winter vacation and Yeshiva Week are just around the corner, making it the perfect time to trade in sweaters for some sun.
When I was growing up, kosher food in the Caribbean was almost unheard of. Today, it’s a completely different story. Many popular Caribbean destinations now have Chabad centers, with kosher food, Shabbat meals and other services available for travelers. Some islands have kosher restaurants and markets, while others offer catering or advance meal orders.
The Caribbean is one of the best winter vacation destinations for kosher travelers, with warm weather, beautiful beaches and plenty to do beyond the resort. Kosher options vary considerably from island to island, so it’s important to check what is available before choosing your destination.
Winter vacation and Yeshiva Week are especially busy. Some destinations add minyanim, kosher dining and other services during these weeks, but availability can change from year to year. If you’re traveling during this period, contact the local Chabad and make reservations well in advance.
