As summer starts to wind down, Passover may still feel far away, but the 2027 Pesach season is already starting to take shape. Passover programs are beginning to announce their hotels and destinations, and more programs will be added over the coming weeks and months.
And as soon as people start thinking about Pesach, the same questions come up. How much does a Passover program cost? Why is one program so much more expensive than another? And what exactly are you getting for the price?
The answer isn’t always straightforward because Passover programs can be very different from one another.
Recently, I was talking with a friend who was looking for a Passover program in Israel. She didn’t want anything fancy. No kids’ club, no nightly entertainment, no bells and whistles. She just needed a comfortable hotel room and good kosher meals for chag. That was it. She found the perfect program through Totally Jewish Travel, and it cost a fraction of what many people assume a Passover program has to cost. At the same time, I have another friend heading to a Passover program with extended family and lots of kids. For them, this is their main vacation of the year. Where a Passover program takes place can have a major impact on the price. A program at a five-star beachfront resort in Florida, Mexico or the Caribbean will generally cost more than one at a smaller hotel or in a destination where hotel and operating costs are lower.

You’ll find everything from more affordable programs to high-end luxury resorts, so it’s important to compare the actual hotel and package rather than assuming one country or region will automatically be cheaper.
Travel costs matter too. A program may look less expensive at first, but airfare, airport transfers and other travel expenses need to be added to the total. On the other hand, even with flights, an overseas program can sometimes work out to be less expensive than a luxury resort program closer to home.
For some families, the destination is also part of the vacation. Spending Pesach somewhere they’ve always wanted to visit can make the cost of traveling farther worthwhile, especially when they plan to explore before or after the program.

Some programs provide supervised activities for a few hours a day, while others run full day camps with separate programming for different ages, teen activities and evening events. If you’re traveling without children, this may be something you don’t need to pay a premium for.
Activities and Hotel Amenities: Pools, golf, tennis, fitness centers, spas, water sports and other resort facilities can add a lot to a Pesach vacation. Some are included with your stay, while others come at an additional charge. It’s worth checking exactly what your package gives you access to.
Entertainment: Live music, concerts, comedians, mentalists, shows and theme nights are common at larger Passover programs. Bringing in well-known performers can be a significant expense, and programs with a full entertainment schedule will often be priced accordingly.
Religious Programming: Daily minyanim are standard, but many programs go well beyond that with scholars-in-residence, rabbis, lecturers, shiurim and special programming throughout Pesach. Some also offer multiple minyanim or different nusach options.
Chol Hamoed Activities: Excursions and organized day trips can also be part of the package. Some programs include them in the price, while others offer them as optional extras. If you plan to spend Chol Hamoed touring, this is another cost worth considering when comparing programs.
All of these extras cost money to provide. The question is which ones matter to you. A family that plans to use the kids’ club, attend the entertainment and spend the day enjoying the resort may get tremendous value from those amenities. If you mainly want a comfortable place to stay, good food and a meaningful chag, you may be happier paying less for a program with fewer extras.

A lot goes into running a Passover program that guests never see. Beyond the hotel rooms, meals and entertainment are significant behind-the-scenes expenses that are built into the price of the program.
